Within the framework of the PRISMI project (Promoting RES Integration for Smart Mediterranean Islands), funded by the Interreg-MED Programme, CRES participated in the European Small Islands Federation (ESIN) 17th Annual General Meeting & Conference, held in Kirkwall (Scotland) from 11-14 September 2017, as an invited guest of the Hellenic Small Islands Network.
On 12 September 2017, CRES representative took part in a technical visit to the island of Shapinsay, organized by the Shapinsay Development Trust in cooperation with ESIN. During the visit, the “Community Project” developed by the local development trust was presented. This project focuses on the installation and operation of a community-owned wind turbine, whose revenues finance local community initiatives.
Two major Horizon 2020 projects were also presented, both related to the pilot development of hydrogen production, storage, transport, and reuse infrastructures. These projects aim to absorb excess energy from wind farms and supply hydrogen-powered ferries serving the islands.
In this context, the project coordinator of the “Agios Efstratios – Green Island”, Mr. P. Zorlos, present the topic “Greening an Island – The Case of Agios Efstratios Island”.
On 13 September 2017, CRES participated in working meetings with representatives of the Orkney Island Council and the European Commission (DG Energy). On the same day, CRES also took part in the Smart Island Seminar, organized by ESIN with the support of the Orkney International Science Festival 2017.
