With remarkable participation and great success, an information event on the pioneering energy project “Ai Stratis – Green Island” was held on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, on Agios Efstratios. Residents of all ages, local employees, and students of the island’s school, accompanied by their teachers, filled the Municipal Hall, listening with keen interest the presentations delivered by representatives of CRES and TERNA Energy, regarding the project’s implementation progress, its operation, and the benefits it will bring to the island.
With active participation in the discussion that followed, the residents asked questions, expressed concerns and shared their enthusiasm for the new green start of Agios Efstratios, which is becoming the first energy autonomous island in Greece, with over 90% electricity coverage from Renewable Energy Sources and an almost zero energy footprint.
Significant insights were offered by the President and General Director of CRES, Mr. Dimitrios Kardomateas, and the Mayor of Agios Efstratios, Mr.Konstantinos Sinanis, who highlighted the importance of the project, not only for changing the daily life of the island’s 250 inhabitants, but also for establishing a national model for sustainable development and energy transition.
The event closed with a visit to the project’s facilities, where visitors had the chance to experience firsthand and in practice how Agios Efstratios is transitioning into the new era of green energy.
